The beaches north of Grays Harbor such as Ocean Shores and further north to Copalis are incredible places to explore, hike, and experience. There are so many reasons to camp near Hood Canal. The scenery is pretty awesome for one. We camped at “Scenic Beach State Park”, it is aptly named as the view across the canal to the Olympic Mountains is just incredible.
This week was a mixed bag for many anglers fishing for salmon in Puget Sound. There are kings rounding the corner and coming in, but success has been scattered over multiple locations and techniques.
As I mentioned in last week’s report, there is so much bait between the Strait and Sound, that these salmon are in no hurry. Let’s dig in!
I’ve been spending way too much idle time glancing at Facebook posts of all the salmon being caught out in Sekiu. Ahhh! It’s killing me to not be back out there. We had an epic time though on the opener and it sounds like it has been absolutely packed with people since then. This report is about what’s going on closer to home though, so let’s dig in!
Last summer on a trip to Puerto Vallarta my friend and I stayed with her aunt and uncle. This is basically his recipe. He served it on tostadas in a way I had never had, but was delicious. We spread mayo on the tostada before adding the ceviche and toppings. I swear it is incredible. Everyone I have ever served has said so.
Sekiu (pronounced CQ) has been on fire since it opened on July 1st, 2020. My friend who went fishing with me on the opener said it was the best salmon fishing he’s ever experienced.

WDFW has announced the exact details for the opening of the 2020 Winter Puget Sound crab season. There won’t be as many folks on the water and the crab will be larger with more meat on them.
