The beaches north of Grays Harbor such as Ocean Shores and further north to Copalis are incredible places to explore, hike, and experience. Because these are a few hours away though, you need a good base of operations, and the Driftwood RV Resort and Campground near Copalis provided just such a place.
The Ocean Shores area of the Washington coast is great not only for all of the activities that are possible nearby, but it also serves as a gateway to the Olympic National Park and Peninsula.
The Olympic Peninsula (OP) is one of my favorite places to visit in the entire Pacific Northwest. Stunning beaches, beautiful old-growth forests, and epic mountain peaks.
The fishing on the OP isn’t half bad either…well actually it’s nothing short of amazing. We weren’t here to fish (though I still found an excuse to wet a line up north for some steelhead) however, as we wanted to have a bit more relaxing experience.
We visited the nearby Griffiths-Priday State Park and hiked on both sides of the Copalis River.
We saw this amazing tree clinging to the side of the cliff that seemed metaphorically appropriate when thinking about this special year 2020. Just gotta hang on!
We also visited Ruby Beach, which is one of the few beaches or places in the Olympic National Park you can take your dog. Ruby Beach is an incredible place.
The rugged beauty of the PNW Coast always causes me to marvel. Steep cliffs, caves, huge rocks, and the impressive trees that the PNW is known for, all meet up with the sea in one glorious scene.
We should also talk about the Driftwood RV Resort and Campground itself. Some RV Parks and Campgrounds you will stay at, will not quite be dialed in. Maybe a little dirty, or basic services not quite working properly. Not so with this place.
Everything is arranged in an organized way to help you have a relaxing experience. Nice roomy and level pads, fireplaces with extra wood.
The bathrooms were new, very clean, and maybe even the highlight of the park. The whole park is just set up to make your stay as relaxing as possible.
Not exactly what you expect to see in an RV Campground, right?
We are definitely planning to return here for the next razor clam dig, whenever that gets announced. I hear it could be soon! This campground is within minutes of Roosevelt Beach, which is one of our favorite places to dig for razor clams.
