With several consecutive outstanding razor clam tides on the coast, we wanted to stay a few nights at an RV Park near Aberdeen WA. We ended up finding Hoquiam River RV Park after a brief search.
We stayed in a back-in site, number 8 which had a nice unobstructed view of the river. In October, after the peak of the camping season, we only had a few neighbors, but the sites themselves had plenty of space. We have a 30′ travel trailer, but we had no issues as the sites were amply large.
There’s a nice green belt that began at our site and continues for quite some distance along the banks of the river. There’s a nice fire pit down on the bank as well, not far from our site.
The restrooms were very clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
We were able to get to Mocrocks Beach in an hour from the RV Park. I was also able to fish a coastal river for salmon.
Even if your RV is winterized, you can enjoy this opportunity by smart use of the water you bring with you and the water provided at the RV Park.
There are quite a few razor clam digs scheduled between now and the 2020 winter/spring season. It’s great to be able to participate in multiple nightly digs, instead of driving a few hours, for a short dig to get limits, and then driving all the way back. Check out this link for tips on getting your limits of razor clams.
What about processing your clams without running water? We boiled them briefly followed by cooling them down in cold water, removed the shells, and stored them in a ziplock in our refrigerator until we could get home and finish the cleaning/processing steps.
If you are looking for an RV Park near Aberdeen WA, Hoquiam River RV Park was a great experience and one we would recommend for taking part in the great razor clam digging season we have ahead of us for the Washington Coast.
