While we’ve had some challenging steelhead restrictions to deal with this winter steelhead season, the opportunity still exists to hook into a winter chrome bolt of energy.
We are only a couple of weeks into 2021 and the early winter steelhead season is winding down already. I like to think of the winter steelhead season as broken down into thirds: Early, middle, and late.
I was able to get out on the January 1st, 2021 Blackmouth opener on the Puget Sound. We braved the wind and modest opener participation to put a nice keeper in the boat. Here is my detailed fishing trip report.
2021 Salmon seasons are now finalized as the North of Falcon process which determines the sport fishing seasons working with the tribes, concludes.
Marine Area 5 (Sekiu) is currently open until April 30th for hatchery chinook. Marine Area 13 is the only place to fish for hatchery chinook in May. Starting in June and into July, the opportunity expands considerably, see the details below.

Every year a group of friends and I head to the Olympic Peninsula to experience some of the most epic salmon fishing in the entire Pacific Northwest. Every year gives you a different curve ball, but we always find the fish and have an incredible experience and 2020 was no exception.
The beaches north of Grays Harbor such as Ocean Shores and further north to Copalis are incredible places to explore, hike, and experience. Because these are a few hours away though, you need a good base of operations, and the Driftwood RV Resort and Campground near Copalis provided just such a place.
