2019 Puget Sound Salmon Seasons Set
Unfortunately, almost all the news on setting the 2019 Salmon Seasons is bad. Yes, there are more coho this year than in previous years. Yes, we need to do our part for conservation purposes and the SRKW situation, but some of the season cuts don’t quite make sense to me.
2019 Puget Sound Shrimp opener announced
WDFW just announced via a press release the 2019 Puget Sound Shrimp seasons. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this release of the shrimping seasons this year after enjoying all the Spot Shrimp in my freezer from this past year. There are some interesting aspects to these announced seasons worth thinking about.
Harvesting Oysters near Tacoma
Raw Oysters – One of the most well-known delicacies associated with the Pacific Northwest. You might pay north of 20$ for a dozen Oysters at market prices and even more if you want them served to you at a nice restaurant on a half shell. What if I told you, that you could get them for free at dozens of public beaches around Puget Sound?
2019 Springer Fishing on the Columbia River
This years run of spring kings on the Columbia River had me seriously questioning whether it was worth the time and effort to drive 2.5 hours, fish a new part of the river and chase a run predicted to be worse than most recent previous years. It was an absolutely fantastic day fishing for Lingcod and Bottomfish on The Slammer charter boat out of Westport. I’m a little late in getting this post out, since the actual trip was on March 27th as things have been busy!
What to wear digging for razor clams
Ever asked your friends to go digging for razor clams with you and tried to give advice about what to wear? Well, in this case, there was some miscommunication that I tried to correct, albeit a bit late…
History of Puget Sound Salmon Runs
Anyone who has fished for Puget Sound salmon has no doubt heard of (or experienced) the “good old days”. We’ve all heard the many theories about what has happened to the great abundance of fish.
I just recently finished reading a fantastic book on the history of Puget Sound salmon runs that is a must read for anyone interested in what has happened to these great runs of fish that once made Puget Sound the center of all salmon fishing and more importantly to glean insights about where we are going.
North of Falcon and 2019 Salmon Forecasts
NWSportsmanmag.com covered the North of Falcon Salmon forecast reveal with a great article outlining what to expect. You never know exactly what to expect, but based on some of the macro trends we’ve been following, the forecast isn’t a huge surprise. I’m personally excited about a few of these forecasts
