Marine Area 10 Chinook Salmon Fishing

Marine Area 10 – Seattle / Bremerton is the heart of Puget Sound and one of the best places to hook into big chinook salmon in good numbers and in metabolic shape to be good biters.

Close to major population centers with significant boat ramp access, makes fishing for chinook salmon in Marine Area 10 a popular activity.

There are many places to fish, however, so you won’t often find yourself in a crowd of boats the way many places are these days.

Another cool factor is you will often have overlapping seasons between chinook and coho, such that you can often target both in the same trip like in the above photo.

Marine Area 10 is also great for the small boater as you can often leave directly from your favorite marina/boat launch and be fishing within a half mile or less.

Where to fish for Chinook Salmon in Marine Area 10 – Seattle / Bremerton

There are many places to target Chinook in Marine Area 10…but as a general rule, think about targeting shallower areas from 70 to 120 ft in depth that have a steep slope. This is where bait will often get pushed into big “bait balls” as currents get strong.

In general, you want to fish the east side of Marine Area 10 on the flood and the west side on the ebb.

In general, though, many techniques are going to be successful. I will often keep things simple and downrigger troll with a Kingfisher spoon like Cookies n Cream or Herring Aide in the 3.0 size on one rod and a hoochie or ace high fly in white or green/chartreuse on the other rod.

Dogfish are a real problem, but bait can produce bites as well.
