Feb 5, 2025
Our shrimping season is basically done for 2024, there is still another opener in a few places. What did we learn? What did you learn? What questions do you have? Also, I want to share some awesome footage from my Hood Canal and San Juan's shrimping trips (including the full footage of the octopus that came up with our pot!) I will also talk about what's coming up as much as you want!

what's up everybody Welcome to p&w best life live stream to talk about our
0:11
2024 shrimping season a little bit of review little bit of uh what lessons did
0:18
we learn and uh what lessons did you learn what questions do you have
0:25
definitely uh want to see what you know your questions are either on the live stream or uh later on in the comments
0:33
you know I I pretty much answer all the questions that come my way about just
0:39
about everything except for what small remote River were you on where you
0:44
caught all those Sal and I generally don't answer those questions but a lot of other questions I I do answer so uh
0:52
you know when you when you jump on get a chance definitely looking for that but
0:57
I'll be sharing some footage I recently posted a a reel on variety of social
1:02
media locations showing the octopus that came up on our um shrimp pot on day two
1:10
in the San Juans that was absolutely incredible was it was I'm a little bummed because I look at the footage
1:16
afterwards and I'm like oh that's cool but like the octopus is way bigger than
1:21
what the footage makes it look like so uh that's a little disappointing but still really cool footage uh that you
1:28
know that octopus basically was draped entirely over one of the McKay octagon
1:33
giant shrimp pots what's up Eric thanks for joining man just talking about
1:39
getting ready to start talking about our shrimp season here uh 2024 some things we learned thought were important you
1:45
know uh a lot of mixed results this year shrimping has been interesting this year every Year's a little bit different
1:50
every Year's you know throws you a curveball or two and uh this year is no
1:56
different especially that Puget Sound opener um where for a lot of folks it was tough
2:02
particularly in 11 11 was really tough 10 was uh mixed I will say although for
2:10
a lot of folks I will say uh no come on come on Eric I I we are a zero octopus
2:17
eating family um and so no I did not eat that big octopus I let it go I know a
2:23
lot of people lot of Sportsman think uh that was a mistake but I don't know what to tell you man uh I can't
2:30
uh I can't I can't pull that one over the boat um so yeah we did not we did
2:36
not touch that look for me like I I kind of understand it um that they you know
2:41
if you you have an octopus you look it in the eye it looks right back at you like there's a lot of intelligence in those creatures and so um yeah we were
2:51
generally not um on board with that but yeah so you know the the shrimping season was mixed for that first day in
2:57
fuget town and I reached out to the Department and I got an email back from Don Velasquez shellfish manager for
3:03
petown um and I'll share some of what he shared as well uh and there is another opener in
3:10
petown on June 13th I believe so we'll talk about that a little bit too and
3:15
kind of some of the things we learned earlier on how they might apply to that because for some of you that's hey
3:22
what's up El hey what's up Brandon I I almost called you elves word but but I
3:27
know that's you um we got about Brandon here a little bit later because Brandon's basically uh legendary uh on
3:36
the San Juans pulling up a a shrimp pot of uh of 511 but we'll talk about that
3:43
and uh just like what that takes what's involved in in making that happen um I got the announcement right here we can
3:49
jump right to answer your question about June 15th or 13th uh it looks like Mariner 10 is June
3:58
13th um as well as Elliot Bay
4:03
and um see Marine did Marine area 9 get one as well yeah June 13th as well so uh
4:12
11's not going to open up there's probably some 15th opener to somewhere
4:17
maybe the Straits of the San Juans I've got the original dates here on my um on
4:22
my my web page for uh for pet Town spot
4:27
shrimp seasons so you know it's got all the dates from the original announcement so
4:32
like M7 West June 13th through 15th is still there
4:38
um you know the South I don't think is going to open again they haven't announced it yet
4:44
so uh there lot yeah you got to look at the emergency openers gota look at the original original announcement all of
4:50
that stuff um yeah so the the but but I
4:56
want to talk I want to share some of the footage from from our our trip let me let me start let's start let's talk
5:01
about let's do this in chronological order let's start let's talk about the first day uh Puget Town opener on on May
5:08
16th and and one of the things about this is uh it's a really small tide movement
5:15
on that day right I mean we had one point I'm looking at the Eagle Harbor Bainbridge Island you know other tides
5:22
in the area are similar I know this doesn't fit everything but I just tried to pick something in the middle for 11 and 10 1.9 feet of title movement over
5:31
about four hours that's a that's not much movement at all and let me just
5:37
just play a little clip from our I believe I shared this on um social
5:44
media but uh let just play a little clip and we'll talk about
5:55
it what I have no idea they're not here though
6:00
[Music]
6:11
yeah so not great right uh a lot of pots with empties this was this was just north of Edmonds right and I'm not very
6:17
familiar with this area I don't typically shrimp uh up in 10 I'm a you
6:23
know when I fish P when I shrimp puet town I'm either an 11 or you know when Hood Canal's open I'm there I like to
6:30
shrimp the straight I like to shrimp the sand wands I'm usually not in the North pet swn I'm usually not going to travel
6:35
an hour and a half to could be like where everyone else is if I'm going to travel it's to to get a little further
6:41
out so so I'm not very familiar with the area but I had a tip from someone was like oh we limit every time right around
6:48
Edmonds right in front of the marina or north towards Browns Bay I was like okay cool so go up there I Mark a little bit
6:53
of shrimp on the sonar around 285 and I'm like okay and there's boats everywhere between us that Marina south
7:01
of us up to Browns Bay there's a crap ton of boats and I'm watching people
7:07
pull pots in that entire stretch and they're getting five six shrimp 10
7:13
shrimp you see you got 14 that day was rainy it was windy it's pretty miserable
7:19
day to be to be on the water shrimping absolutely um we we ended up with about
7:24
a 100 shrimp between my wife and I so it wasn't like you know we almost got to
7:30
our our two limits but we actually left early we're like we're going to go to Hood Canal and we're not going to sit
7:35
here and grind out 10 shrimp a pot for for for the for the last hour of this of
7:41
this thing so we just we just took off we're like we're done um yeah I was conc you know I shrimp a little bit in south
7:47
end of 10 near Banbridge Island last year and it was the same deal you know there was reports on Banbridge before
7:54
that being really really good around Eagle Harbor and it was the same deal last year abundances were really there
8:00
was a small small cloud of shrimp and there was like 30 boats hammering on them pulling up you know 10 15 shrimp a
8:07
pot was not was not good and then some of you some really good shrimpers got got absolutely smoked in 11 um didn't
8:14
find anything but then I I also heard some reports I asked that you always want to ask the fish Checker when you get off the water how what have you
8:21
counted how many shrimp where you know oh and if they if they tell you limits
8:27
okay where at because usually they ask people where you where did you get those shrimp and so you you just kind of want to know and in nine people were getting
8:34
shrimp in nine uh in a variety places it was quite good there were a few places in 10 that
8:40
were getting shrimp I got reports later on from uh from someone that even 11
8:45
produced some shrimp but they were much much shallower
8:50
um and and so yeah there there were some there were some good there was some good shrimping in in different places it the
8:57
the wind is not the final Arbiter of whether or not you get trim um in fact
9:03
uh the the counter to the wind is have really heavy pots that'll help uh as
9:09
well as um if you have pot anchors to
9:15
negate the effect of of wind and bouncing around in the waves on your pot if your pots are moving at all they're
9:22
not getting shrimp shrimp will not go into a pot that's bouncing around moving around so so that could have been a
9:28
factor for a lot of folks I don't think that was a factor for us um but another really important thing to realize here
9:34
is when you're when you're if you you this is really really important you
9:40
gotta match your bait to the tide you have to match your bait to the tides
9:46
what are we talking about so so this 1.9 feet title movement is really low matter of fact the last few years wfw has been
9:54
opening it on pretty decent water movement Tides they've not been uh super
10:01
super small tides they've actually been fairly decent Tides going on in the middle of their 4H hour opener so if
10:08
you've been if you've had it dialed in the last few years and then all of a sudden this year you're like what what
10:13
happened um that might have been it and and here's the tell here's how you know and by the way for any experienced sh
10:19
shrimper you know this but it the first thing you do when you pull that pot up on the on your boat you know besides
10:27
admire how many shrimp you didn't get or or maybe you did get is pull out your bait canister and take a look at it how
10:33
much bait is left right if most of your bait is still left uh that's what
10:40
happened right like you should have most of your bait gone you want maybe a third
10:45
of your bait left in your canister um and and if and if you still have most of
10:52
your bait it was too viscous it was too thick it it wasn't it wasn't matched to the current right if you have very
10:58
little bait left it was too loose it was too thin right and and so you you have
11:05
to match your bait uh thickness your bait mixture to
11:10
the tides and here's some suggestions on that um for for one thing you know a lot
11:16
of us know the John Sporting Goods uh saltwater book that's a staple you've got to have at least one of the
11:21
additions of that I've got one maybe from a few years ago um but John Sporting Goods you know
11:28
has has their uh their shrimp bait formula out there it's pretty well known
11:34
I've copied it and adapted it for my own uses but you the the formula is is your
11:40
is your pellets your ocean white fish tuna uh cat food wet cat food and your
11:48
canned mackerel right those are the elements you can do a lot of other stuff you can grind up salmon carcasses you
11:53
can gr up S you know uh spawner salmon whatever uh to replace your mackerel
12:00
you can use dry cat food you can do you can do a whole bunch of other things right there's there's many many
12:05
variations of of shrimp bait that that actually work but if you're going to start with let's just start with the
12:11
John Sporting Goods because it's it's what I use right that's my formula that I start with and one of the things I've
12:17
noticed is um your uh the mackerel is very loose the mackerel uh will will
12:24
milk out very very quickly it disperse extremely fast the the cat food is is
12:30
more viscous it'll hold stuff together a little bit more like a little bit more like a glue a lot of people do creative
12:36
stuff with their pellets I I don't I throw I mix my stuff together and I you know in Puget town in particular uh my
12:44
pellets are there to keep milking out after all that other stuff is dispersed keep that keep the shrimp in the pot I'm
12:51
not worried about my pellets um because I'm not trying to fish pellets on their own right so uh if if you want something
12:58
that milks out quicker and this is what I did uh from the Puget Town one of the things I thought back about the petown
13:04
experience I think you know what I didn't like how much bait was still left in my canister so when it came to Hood
13:09
Canal Hood Canal had very similar Tides right these are the CC tides for uh May
13:16
17th there was a 2.3 foot exchange over like a five hour period I said you know
13:23
what forget this I'm gonna go I'm gonna go um much Le I'm gonna lean into a very
13:30
fast dispersing bait so I I put much more mackerel in I think I just put one little can of cat food and then I loaded
13:37
up on procure oil right the crab and shrimp
13:42
oil and and this is a secret toss if you really wanna if you really want to supercharge your your bait in in a uh
13:51
really any situation but particularly uh low tide uh movement type of Tide small
13:57
tides bloody tuna oil bloody tuna oil is the way to go first of all if you've
14:04
ever crabbed with tuna uh blood lines or shavings from from like tuna loins and
14:09
stuff like that or tuna carcass you already know it's the best it it attracts everything down there even in
14:15
super deep water it disperses and it's it's epic absolutely epic um so yeah I I
14:24
I dumped a bunch of bloody tuna oil in there the procure stuff the mackerel and I went out and got my personal best uh
14:31
pot pull uh in Hood Canal the next day we got 280 uh or 260 shrimp in one pot
14:37
very very pleased with that very happy with that so uh so that's something to consider match it with the match the uh
14:45
match your bait with the ties we'll talk about the other side of that equation here in a second but I want to show
14:52
you that real quick uh here we go
14:59
some footage here beautiful day on Hood
15:09
Canal okay come on where where's my look like crimp so it can fool you cuz they
15:15
have the same color you know underwater oh I see color can't tell if there's shrimp in it
15:21
you love it when that pot first comes up we're saying they're shrimp oh yeah they're shrimp oh the blot is covered
15:26
with shrimp the mother oh yeah oh my God oh
15:34
my right here's where I hurt my back my lower back the first time I heard
15:43
it I can't believe I did
15:48
that yeah that was a nice pot that was a nice pot and uh that was a big I messed
15:54
up big time I hurt my back um and uh yeah was not that was not a great
15:59
feeling what do you think about the bait binder premix blend I don't know
16:05
anything about that I've not tried that so um yeah I don't have a comment on that but uh happy to check it out I
16:13
haven't had a reason to go find a new uh bait approach um John sporting good
16:20
stuff works pretty good but uh there like I said there's a lot of ways to do it there's a lot of ways to approach it
16:25
um just depends on how how desperate you are you know how how uh how much do you
16:31
want to slam dunk because you want to slam dunk you go out and buy the procure blade tuna oil and uh you're going to
16:36
absolutely kill it so um yeah so that was that was Hood Canal
16:42
we basically repeated those results on day two in Hood Canal it was epic it was beautiful I mean it was just absolutely
16:49
incredible and then fast forward two weeks and we're going to jones Island and uh Jones island is an awesome
16:55
awesome place to camp in the San Juans but as soon as you get out into these
17:01
areas with bigger current much bigger current than patan Hood Canal like the San Juans straight uh you got to think a
17:08
little differently about your uh about your your your shrimping approach because um you you can have current that
17:15
will absolutely take your pots and take them right off of a ledge you can have currents that will uh bury your um your
17:24
buoys uh as soon as they go under if you if you pick the wrong current to shrimp it then and and so it's not that you
17:31
can't get shrimp that way though we we we did that uh Brandon on here uh on the
17:37
last day he was like I'm gonna go drop my pots and go break Camp I'm going home
17:42
and he dropped his pots and they disappeared like he left to go break camp and his pots went underwater and I
17:48
was like dude your your your your buoys are totally gone but he went up pulled his limits and uh and got back out of
17:54
there uh while I was breaking Camp so it it's still very doable but you got to think think differently about your bait
18:00
you've got if you're thinking about your bait the way that we talked previously where there's no no tide current it it's
18:08
it's not going to work as well so you you got to think uh I I I want a bait that's going to hold together disperse
18:15
but hold together and keep milking out uh when the current um gets light enough
18:22
to where the the the shrimp will follow your bait Cloud your dispersed bait
18:28
Cloud they'll follow it back into your pot and that's what you want and if you hit that current perfectly um you can uh
18:35
you can do what Brandon did on on day two out there which was pull up a pot of of 511 shrimp um he's a pretty big
18:42
believer in the blade tuna oil um and uh yeah Brand's elbs wereb here in the chat
18:49
so he's he's dropping he's dropping knowledge on you and uh definitely want to pay attention to that um yeah first
18:57
year lost of shrimp pot we were going in July to camp and shrimp epic you will have an epic trip that's absolutely
19:02
worth it hit me up if you want some uh some pointers some ideas about that because we just shrimp right in front of
19:07
Jones Island there's a there's a crap ton of shrimp there um and it was an absolute blast we've
19:14
done this is the third year now we've done it over probably the last seven eight years and it's been it's been a lot of fun but yeah you you know we we
19:21
talked to others in the area some didn't do as well you know some uh it wasn't like everyone was getting limits
19:28
everyone was you know uh just slaying and and we talked to some folks that
19:33
were getting blanked that had lost pots and uh yeah so it's you you've got to
19:39
have some things dialed in you've got to pay attention to all the details and uh
19:44
all of that's available on on my YouTube channel on the website other places
19:49
other resources on the web but you but if you go out there and think the details don't matter you're in for a
19:55
tough tough time hit all the details um and you can go out there and be a
20:01
hero get your shrimp uh on one pot set and uh and no problem so um all right
20:07
let me let me share uh one okay I got to share the octopus footage because I I put the t's
20:14
out there and uh you know I want to share the whole thing here so you can get an idea what was going
20:20
on let's see here here's the full octopus footage this is day two of just
20:27
first of all uh I mean the sun when the sun is shining in the San wands it just
20:33
doesn't get much better than that right I mean this is just incredible footage just on the basis
20:39
that it's just High depth and the water's beautiful the islands are beautiful but let's let's let's get a
20:45
look at um I've got a new pot puller I got this Ace Pacific Pro and uh and I
20:51
blew a fuse on it uh the day before and Brandon kind of helped me out gave me some uh gave me some extra fuses and
20:59
then I blew promptly blew another fuse on this pot but let's let's check it
21:05
[Laughter]
21:10
out uh oh did we blow it again it
21:17
did it just takes a lot of um dang it
21:23
okay yeah they gave me an extra one
21:36
[Music] let's see if I can help
21:41
it I thought I was going to blow another fuse just came unstuck stuck on
21:47
something now it's
21:54
going oh my gosh guys look at this look at this come here come here quick quick
21:59
quick quick quick quick oh that's a huge octopus Maggie get camera I'm filming it
22:05
I'm filming it guys he's sitting there eating look at him look at
22:11
him no I want him to let go I don't want
22:19
to my goodness
22:29
oh my
22:35
gosh remember oh my God she undid my latch
22:42
tooy yeah he was sitting there you open my open my pot up and he was sitting
22:47
there uh eating all my shrimp so there was probably about 10 shrimp in there with the heads removed he was eating the
22:53
Tails and uh I estimate he was probably like if you mov the tentacles all the
22:59
way out uh he was probably six seven feet I mean it was a it was a massive
23:05
massive Critter and uh definitely not one I would want to be in the water with because it was a little yeah it was it
23:12
was it was remarkable uh one of the coolest things definitely I've seen on my boat but uh you there's the you know
23:19
the islands have so much life and uh you just never know what you're going to see out there so uh you know if you have the
23:27
opportunity you definitely want to get out to the San Juans you know whether you stay at Jones island or Friday
23:32
Harbor Deer Harbor wherever you're going to stay out there um or just go over for
23:37
manac Cordis it's it's worth it man it's it's such a cool such a cool adventure
23:43
um all right I got to share this other video uh you guys can tell me what you think of this this is pretty incredible
23:48
that this happened uh while I was out there um but this was this was really
23:54
remarkable as well this was like the last day you could tell
23:59
uh till the weather changed a little bit a little windy a little more more rough a little more challenging and the the
24:06
optimal current was later but we were all trying to get our limits pack up camp and get off the island so we were
24:11
we were willing to deal with a little bit more heavier current and uh still found success pretty pretty quickly but
24:17
uh check check this out this is this encounter happened near Spring passage and uh yeah what's
24:26
that oh yeah
24:31
what yeah I'm name
24:37
it you cing me to pull someone else's
24:42
bot my bot [Music]
24:48
man yeah oh yeah that's the standard how they sell them all they all come that way when you buy them at sport car or
24:56
whatever oh it's plugged with shrim that's a lot of
25:15
shrimp that's better pot so that was probably about 1 15 and
25:23
uh spring passage uh spring passage is right next to Jones Island and the
25:29
current there uh changes over uh a lot faster it sort of like slows down and
25:34
speeds up before uh Jones Island fully slows down so it can be a way to take advantage of a current change before the
25:43
spot on Jones Island there's probably about 150 in that pot um if I remember correctly but yeah that was interesting
25:49
like pulling up a pot and getting accused of pulling up someone else's pot and uh I later talked to the guy and I I
25:56
tried to remove his like vessel name so you know you can't really can't really
26:01
tell who it was because I talked to the guy later and I was like you know hey he apologized and and uh whatnot and I was
26:08
like yeah there's really no good way to ask that question right of of uh are you
26:13
pulling he his buddy asked him to keep an eye on his pots out there the thing that kind of kills me about this whole
26:19
thing and and I think back to it is like um he thought I was pulling his buddy's
26:25
pots because his buddy's pots are buoys on a PVC stick which is
26:31
like uh I mean that's that's how they're sold um you know at sporco or whever I
26:38
mean that that's what you that's what you find is is buoys on a PVC PVC stick so I don't I don't know that was weird
26:44
and and even after I was like dude my name is on the on the buoy he continued to insist that um you know I might have
26:52
been pulling up his buddy's pot so that was that was a little nerve uh nerve-wracking because
26:58
um people have been been certainly uh shot at For Less in the wrong in the
27:04
wrong place that's not a light accusation if you want to tell you know accuse someone of pulling up someone's
27:09
pot um that's that's kind of a big deal uh so you you want to go you want if
27:15
you're GNA do that you want to go on more than hey your your buoys are on a PVC stick and are somewhere in the area
27:22
where you know 100 other people are dropping their stuff so um but it worked
27:28
out all right but uh yeah hopefully uh hopefully uh that that's a first that's a first for me but uh um yeah
27:36
interesting interaction um that was on day three and let let's see what what
27:42
else I want to cover here um okay so here's another here's another
27:50
topic which is what a what a shrimp look like on your sonar right so was funny
27:56
when we Brandon and I and as we first got out there you know we hadn't shrimp there anytime recently and so we're
28:03
looking at our sonar we're looking at our fish finder going okay what there there's marks there's life everywhere
28:09
right there's there's shrimp like shrimp looking marks all over the bottom at
28:15
various depths right uh anywhere from 150 to 350 you're going to find all
28:23
kinds of different shrimpy looking markings so how can you tell what's shrimp and and what's not
28:29
um and there aren't a lot of great ways to narrow that down other than drop pots
28:34
but don't go all in on one depth you know if you're not sure and you're looking at and it's a new area drop at
28:41
250 drop at 225 drop at 325 mix it up drop at 300 drop at 28 you know like mix
28:48
up your depths to try to narrow it down as fast as possible um and and hone in
28:54
on it another thing I'll say is when you're going over shrimp the current is ripping you will not see this this this
29:02
is this is what um take a look at this this photo here
29:08
um uh here we go I think this is
29:14
what that's not what I wanted to do uh let's see
29:20
here okay so this was a photo from Hood Canal and these This Cloud here this
29:27
loose blue cloud usually they're not tightly packed but they're usually more loose uh this is a ton of shrimp this is
29:33
where I picked up my personal best pot and Hood Canal and this is what a lot of shrimp looks like on very little
29:40
current uh the shrimp when there's a lot of current they're not the strongest swimmers right so when there's a lot of
29:47
current they are hunkered down to the bottom and this this uh this this barely
29:54
perceptible kind of yellowish bluish fuzz on the bottom is more what they they look like in Strong current but
29:59
when the current slows down they they come up and and they're and they're they're swimming around
30:05
these clouds and they'll look more like this and you gotta if you know that this is shrimp and this is what your pot
30:11
looks like where it's dropping that's about as good as you can hope for because that is a money pot right there
30:19
you just dropped in the you know you're going to pull up the mother load um and that was absolutely absolutely fantastic
30:25
and that's that's what it looks like so again if if the current's really moving don't expect to find a big cloud they're
30:31
not going to come up until the current slows down but when the current is moving you know on mine when there's no
30:39
shrimp it's like there's red there's a layer of red and nothing nothing right
30:44
on top of the red but when they're shrimp you can kind of see this little yellow blueish kind of line and it it
30:52
takes a trained eye to notice it when you're when you're scouting but eventually you will dial it in just know
30:57
there a difference here deping on what the current's doing it's all about what the current is doing
31:04
so um okay let's see what else uh oh shout out to Harold and Wanda we also
31:11
met on the island they were absolutely awesome fans of the channel and uh they were great to meet and connect with and
31:19
uh hope to see them out on pet town and speaking of fugit town uh several of you
31:26
some of you I know for me me few of you we're preparing for the uh the Derby
31:32
style opener in Marine Area 11 tomorrow um oh man I I am not particularly Fired
31:41
Up by the tides in Marine are 11 tomorrow in the morning I wish it was a
31:47
smaller exchange but it's uh you know that's the opener um and we've got 15 ft
31:53
of of water movement and I'm hoping to get my fish for my crew and get off the
31:59
water um the evening tide looks like a lot more appealing a lot more attractive
32:05
I'm probably going to troll for the majority of the trip tomorrow morning um
32:11
unless I decide to stay on the water before the minus three low tide at uh 10:45 a um I'm probably GNA stick to
32:20
trolling I'd love to get him to J I'd love to get them jigging but uh yeah that would mean being on the
32:27
water closer to the tide change which means I don't get off the water for another two hours plus so um maybe I'll
32:34
see you out there Point Defiance but uh that's coming up resi coo is already
32:39
open uh I've seen some some reports and some catch some some pictures some video
32:44
of some catches I haven't dug too much into the uh I should pull up the um I should pull up the the cre report since
32:52
I got those on my website um on the the cre graphs and see what see what what
32:58
people are getting here hold on that would be a smart thing to do and I can share
33:03
that uh one last thought about shrimping while I'm finding that it looks like that June 13th opener that Redemption
33:10
opener for you guys in 10 and and up and nine
33:16
um it looks like the tide the tides are very small so definitely want to
33:21
implement the uh the the the the loose bait strategy get that dispersion out
33:28
there make sure you you've got only a third or fourth of your bait left in your canister um before you before you
33:36
um you know redrop and if you have to adjust if you have to adjust your bait mixture you know you want to do that uh
33:43
I always have extra supply of everything because you don't want to be stuck out there realize your bait mixture is wrong
33:48
and then not have the supplies to loosen it or thicken it uh so you also always want to have spare ingredients on your
33:54
boat and ready to adjust uh on the Fly um one other thing about that is you
34:02
can you can affect your dispersion too by how full you you fill your canister
34:09
so if you fill your canister all the way up and you pack it in it's going to disperse more slowly than if you fill it
34:16
up to about 2/3 34s and kind of keep it Loose that's more of a fast dispersion strategy if I'm going to shrimp heavy
34:23
currents I'm going to pack that thing in and all the way up and really make the
34:28
water work to get my bait out of the canister so another another thing you can do to kind of adjust things um all
34:35
right here's the here's the current graph I've got for um for
34:43
coo in 10 so it looks like
34:49
about uh a fish per two rods is the average in 10 which that's not
34:55
great uh let me see what the typical let me see what the typical
35:00
average is around this time um a lot of times it starts slower
35:07
early in June and picks up more of the middle so here's here's the timing uh so
35:14
typically it yeah it starts out this is the average over the last you know 2019 to 2024 so you could see that we don't
35:21
really get to that like almost a fish parod level until mid June so this is
35:27
this is probably decent or more typical for this time of year um so if you're
35:35
gonna if you're going to Target it in 10 uh don't be discouraged you might have to grind a little bit uh until you get
35:41
that dialed in so uh yeah we we we we'll see how that
35:46
we'll see how that goes my first trip will probably be next week on 10 and we'll be happy to share what I learn
35:53
from that in terms of other trips other
35:58
future stuff for p&w best life we will be doing uh 11 tomorrow maybe on
36:05
Saturday 10 next week uh I've got a trip planned to Nia
36:10
Bay you know in late part of June which I'm super excited about three days
36:15
targeting salmon and bottom fish uh that that's GNA be absolutely awesome and then uh then probably Port Angeles for
36:22
the July 1 opener uh Westport Maybe the following
36:28
week I will be at Baker Lake in July very happy to get invited on a trip
36:36
there with some folks and then uh I'm planning to do of course more Westport
36:43
all of the pet Town openers like nine uh gota do you gotta do nine you got to do
36:49
possession and all that stuff that was crazy last year was so much fun and then uh and then me and a crew are going to
36:55
Port Hardy and that's going to be an AB absolute Blast for for almost a week in Late July early August so um yeah feel
37:03
free to drop any questions look for more content look for more live streams you
37:09
know um kind of a lot of fun to just jump on and and uh talk through this
37:14
stuff and answer questions and and happy to keep doing that as well as probably put a video together from some of this
37:20
stuff the shrimping shrimping footage and talking through the season so um I'm going to drop off now great to have you
37:28
all on that joined and feel free to drop more comments questions and video on YouTube and hopefully to see you out
37:34
there doing uh doing some more of this fun stuff and getting some more good meat in the freezer so uh stay safe take
37:41
care
