Puget Sound salmon fishing last week of July 2025. Will we get more time in MA9 and MA10?!?

Will we get more openers in MA9 and MA10? That's the question everyone wants to know. While I don't know the answer to that question in 9, I'm certain we will get more time in 10 based on looking at the creel data in 2025 vs 2024. I will break it down in the video, and you can see exactly what I'm talking about. First, you have to suffer through a few minutes of my crew salmon fishing last week in MA9 and having some decent success too!

There you go.

Hey everybody, PNW Best live here. Just
0:13
want to share a quick video of a little
0:15
bit of Puget Town salmon fishing. Last
0:17
week we uh decided to take advantage of
0:19
the one day Mariner 9 opener and we went
0:22
up to possession.
0:24
Got one fish on a plug, but it uh got
0:28
off. We hit the boat. So, uh fishing was
0:31
tough at first. I think we were there
0:33
kind of at the wrong wrong time, wrong
0:35
part of the bar. And so, we decided to
0:37
head over to Pointe Point and fish kind
0:40
of the EB going west of there and Skunk
0:42
Bay.
0:45
Felt it out of the house.
0:47
Hurry up, Nick.
0:52
And we proceeded to hook quite a few
0:54
fish. Had some different gear failures
0:56
and uh different reasons for not getting
1:00
them into the net. Although we, you
1:02
know, we finally did get a few fish to
1:05
the net.
1:07
It was still coming up as he grabbed it.
1:09
So,
1:10
yeah. Good. Get it.
1:11
It's pretty. I yelled as soon as I saw
1:13
it. You pulling any line or a little
1:15
bit.
1:17
Doesn't feel like a monster, but
1:31
Got it.
1:37
That stupid knot.
1:39
It's too
1:44
coh
1:46
at all.
1:47
Yeah, I would.
1:53
There we go.
1:57
Fill that fish.
2:02
wondering
2:08
pinky.
2:09
I forgot you didn't have a plug on. So,
2:14
and uh you know, overall overall great
2:17
trip.
2:35
I can't see with you there.
2:38
Let's talk real quick about where we are
2:39
in the quotas. You know, it's we don't
2:41
know exactly how to translate Creole
2:44
data to the WFW quota numbers. But, you
2:49
know, given that Marine Area 9 and 10
2:51
basically hit their quotas, we're very
2:54
near in 2024, you can kind of look at
2:57
that data
2:58
to to estimate where we might be so far
3:01
this year. But first, let's just look at
3:03
the the angller versus catch data for
3:06
for each of these areas. So, here we're
3:08
looking at nine. And you can see, you
3:10
know, kind of the typical pattern. The
3:12
first day is the best day, and it kind
3:14
of goes down from there. there was
3:16
enough fish left on the table to get us
3:18
one more day and nine potentially two
3:21
more days. Now, let's look at take a
3:23
look at uh marine area 10 and you could
3:26
see that really not a whole ton of fish
3:29
have been caught in Marine Area 10.
3:30
Hasn't really turned on although from
3:33
you know Friday to Saturday it got
3:35
better in terms of uh the the shnook
3:37
that were creed and probably will be at
3:40
its peak here over the next week and
3:43
then I do believe we're going to get
3:44
another opener. We'll look at that in a
3:45
second. Marine Air 11 still slow, still
3:49
waiting for fish to to push down into
3:51
the typical areas, but there's already a
3:54
lot of pinks around in some different
3:55
areas. Um, and that's something that you
3:58
might want to focus on, and those should
4:00
be showing up more and more every day.
4:02
Just take a look at the the the graph so
4:04
far comparing 2024 to 2025
4:07
total so far just from the Creole data
4:10
and you could see we're not yet at the
4:11
total number caught in Marine Area 9 in
4:14
2025 or sorry in 2024. So there's a
4:17
chance we could get another day in
4:19
Marine Area 9. Um I'm not holding my
4:22
breath but the data shows we're
4:24
underneath that of what we hit last year
4:28
with 10. You can see we're way off the
4:30
numbers uh from 2024. So, there's a
4:32
chance we might actually get a season
4:35
out of 10. Uh I'm hoping the department
4:38
will consider opening 10 on this next
4:41
opener and just leaving it open u
4:43
through through August until we hit the
4:45
quota for Shnook and then, you know, CO
4:48
and Pinks uh should be open after that.
4:52
And uh continue to be open, I should
4:54
say. Marine 11, as you can see, we're
4:55
well off uh you know, where we were, and
4:58
we didn't even get all our fish in 2024.
5:00
So, there's a lot of work done to be
5:02
done still in Mariner 11, which is why
5:04
it's open 7 days a week. And we'll we'll
5:07
have a two fish limit, I believe,
5:09
starting August 1st, which should help
5:12
uh quite a bit as those fish push into
5:15
Central and South Sound.
