We recently dug for razor clams on Copalis Beach and after a little bit of effort, we got to our limit while it was still light out.
I share some cool knowledge about digging razor clams while taking you through the early part of our dig.
Did you know that razor clams swim in schools? I know right?!
I finished the video talking a bit about the North of Falcon salmon season setting process, and the recreation calendar coming up, especially the smelt fishery later this week (Exciting!)

Oh, look the sides of this one
0:02
Big one, buddy. Black hole, son. There's a clam crew. It's actually pretty nice weather, but
0:11
it's a little windy and the wind has the bite to it. We're here probably two and a half hours before low tide
0:18
and we're a little early. A lot of people that are getting them are out in the surf right now
0:23
Minus 1.2 foot low tide, so we've got plenty of time to get it done, get our clams
0:28
I went truffle hunting for the first time. first time my dogs and they failed they failed me they are stuck in the truck
0:37
hopefully they don't destroy my truck that's the last thing I need is I'm
0:41
running around free on the beach and then coming back into totally destroying my
0:46
truck so that's big bummer for them oh just getting over cold that congestion
0:56
good to be out here doing something harvesting something we've never been razor clamming find your own food
1:08
somewhere Pacific Northwest this is like you got to be kidding me these dogs
1:18
killing me knock it off knock it off
1:29
Jeez. I like to use one of these wading belts from my gear here
1:37
It's super simple belt. I like this fish god's bag. They use for mushroom forging as well
1:45
We're picking them trash, but it's great for for distint it up clams and toss son in here
1:53
I don't remember what I was talking about earlier. That's right. I knew this whole thing
1:58
This is probably the easiest activity to get involved in. There is a little bit of skill to it
2:07
You know, you've got to be able to find the shows. But if you pick the right tide, right surf conditions
2:13
you don't want two active of a surf, you know? I think we're seven, eight feet, pretty spaced apart
2:19
So that's pretty good today. But if you pick the right tide, today is a minus 1.2
2:28
your your odds improved dramatically of requiring much less skill to get your limit of
2:36
clams out of the beach you know digging them's got a little bit of technique to it
2:41
but it's not that hard see this is this is almost what a show looks like except
2:46
where we are on the beach this is a sand trip there are always sand trip these little
2:52
mounds from the beach because we got to get lower they're everywhere
2:58
All these old mounds. We get lower and they're less likely to be sand shrimp, more likely to be razor clams
3:07
Look at this. Something like this is more like what a razor clam show is
3:12
I doubt that that's what it is, but I'm going to dig it up. This to show
3:19
Show what's up. I want to just angle your tube slightly towards the ocean
3:26
And it's not so much brute strength as you're just turning. You're gonna rock it, rock it back in the fourth little rock, a little twist
3:33
Get it all the way down there, then you cover the hole, you pull back up and use your legs, not your back
3:39
Look at all the sand trip down there. Exactly what that it was A bunch of that Yeah but these are all sand trim Up up yeah it the sand trip all sand trip
3:54
This high up on the beach, it's always sand trim. You gotta get lower
4:02
You guys find any yet? Sometimes you'll see their little feet peeking out
4:09
or necks or whatever. There's one right here bubbling
4:22
Pretty good. See what this guy is. There's several holes right over here
4:36
Oh, Sand trip. Yeah. It's just got to be lower, man. Oh, that might be a razor clam
4:46
I said it because I thought I felt some shell. Nope, sand trip
4:54
Oh, that's the sand trip. As you get closer to two hours
4:59
you're gonna get closer to the razor clams. We're sand trip. Agreed
5:11
That would look like a clam. Yeah, I got you. Yeah, I got you
5:23
Are you trying to get that to have a Sondrit? Yeah. Are you going to get that one
5:33
me that one. When you see the whole show kind of move
5:42
like make a big movement, JD got one. Nice. Very nice. Yeah, extra protein
6:03
this one here and just showed up. Oh one right next to it. Look that. Get that one
6:17
Oh, there's one more right next to this one. Oh, there it is. Big one, buddy. Big one buddy. Oh, it was in there
6:29
There, dude. Keep you gotta keep your, uh, keep your thing on that spot
6:34
Look this one. Big one, buddy. Big one buddy. That is big
6:45
My love, JD. J.D. Big one, buddy. Keep an eye on this area. There's more. I find Razor Clans like to swim in schools
7:05
There's a Razor Clam tribes that, um, and villages that you come upon
7:13
Black O's sun, won't you come? Won't you come? Oh, you come
7:23
Black old son. Black old sun Won't you come Wash away the rain Wash away the rain Oh this is all there two of them guys down here and we get the other one
7:45
Dead in right here next to me right there Oh, I didn't get it
8:05
I didn't get it, Fannie. Oh, there it is. There it is
8:17
Oh, there's another one. Oh, sand trip, right? We're sand tripping this hole
8:29
Yeah. That was a sand trip hole. Right next to a razor clam hole
8:38
Oh, there's a bunch of shows. Oh, look at the size of this one
8:43
This displaced earth. Oh. Yeah, oh boy, big one buddy
8:56
That's four. Yeah. There's another one. Yeah, nice one
9:06
Good job. See this one here? See how that one's a mound
9:13
This one's a displacement, Daniel. See mound? Displacement. Good job, honey, don't let him get away
9:27
Big one, buddy. He's got some damage to him, but he should be okay
9:37
Five. Yeah. Look at this one. Look this displacement. Mass displacement theory
9:48
The biggest clams. There it is
9:58
I see him right there. He's in my tube. Bam. Yeah. He's all right
10:08
The medium. This six. Which one? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll see that one's bubbling right there Daniel that's your leave
10:26
indication you gotta get it to the right angle though there all right oh there is here it there is there is nice yeah yeah
10:46
Alright, you got it Norma? Good job, Norma. Yeah, he's right there
10:54
Right there. Oh, he's a little crunch, but he'll be all right
10:58
It's a cluster of them. It's a school. They're swimming together. Oh, look at how far has come back
11:16
Whoa, whoa. I saw that. Saw that? Where were you I saw that see any displacement though That my truck
11:35
Oh, there it is. Oh, here. I was going to keep it in here
11:45
If I pull it out, it's over. Let's see. See if I can get a clam from one pull
12:00
No. Where's my hole? Oh, there it is. Maybe I can get it
12:07
Maybe I can still get it. Nope. It's working up an appetite
12:14
Just the Takeriafrancos. You see that's Subscribe to my channel, P&W Best Life, and of course, check out their awesome razorclad resources we have on P&WBestLife.com
12:58
But especially this time of year, we're really involved with North of Falcon process, and I'm going to be sharing a lot more about that in the future and what's coming up with our salmon seasons this summer
13:11
And you're not going to want to miss this material, this insight to just know where things are going to stand and why some of the things are happening
13:19
working through the process to influence the greatest amount of recreational opportunity
13:26
as well as prioritizing conservation so that we have fisheries in the future
13:41
In terms of my recreational harvest season, we have a smelt fishery coming up here
13:47
which is, that's awesome. You have to go smell dipping if you've never done that before
13:52
They taste amazing. Don't listen to people who say they're only good for bait
13:56
You know, they're really easy to catch and collect. And we've got an opener earlier in the season this time and just set up perfectly
14:06
I wish there was more notice. You know, you're going to have a hard time finding a decent dip net
14:11
You can probably make something, you know, with a PVC, a pool net, something to
14:17
improvise and get yourself a long-handle smelt dip net. But you're going to want to take advantage of that for sure
14:24
You know, went out and did a little bit of steelhead fishing, got my first steelhead of the year
14:30
That was really cool. And yeah, there's more coming. We're coming up really close to March 1st, Blackmail season
14:37
And that's when really everything gets really exciting for Pugetown later in March
14:42
You get the ocean opening up and then away we go, right
14:47
I had made a lot of videos yet in this year, but, you know, things, things are going to get underway very quickly going forward
14:55
And you want to be, you want to be subscribed and you want notification turned on so you don't miss any of the opportunities coming your way
15:04
Hope you were entertained by this clam, a razor clam video for 2024
15:11
I hope you have a good year so far and good luck with all your recreation harvest pursuit
