Pacific Northwest best life you can
0:04
always go to pmw best life calm for
0:06
everything you need to know to
0:07
experience the great outdoor recreation
0:10
of the Pacific Northwest today we are
0:14
looking at another shrimping trip here
0:17
we launched out of Seebeck on Hood Canal
0:21
see Bex got a nice one-lane boat launch
0:24
free parking with the discover path
0:27
today I went shrimping with my good
0:30
buddy Tim here and here we are waiting
0:34
for 9 a.m. to drop our first pots of the
0:38
day there's a lot of locations around
0:41
Seebeck to shrimp we'll cover a few of
0:44
them here you can actually shrimp right
0:46
out front of the the boat ramp there in
0:50
front of Seebeck there's a lot of boats
0:51
that were targeting that area
0:53
additionally the DOS Wallops shoreline
0:57
had a lot of folks and we maybe you can
1:00
sell the most boats out front a big beef
1:02
harbor a little east of the of the boat
1:05
ramp you don't have to go very far to
1:08
find a good shrimping location out of
1:10
Seebeck we launched pretty early as we
1:13
were looking for what you see here on
1:15
the sonar which is good signs of shrimp
1:19
and these little clouds little clusters
1:22
and that 250 to 300 foot range we found
1:26
a lot of signs of shrimp really all over
1:29
all over the area around Seebeck we
1:33
ended up in a little small part of d-bob
1:35
Bay and you know had pretty good company
1:39
a few other boats there probably 1015
1:42
other boats there but for the most part
1:45
we were able to find some areas as you
1:49
can see here in the video like you know
1:51
there's not really any other boats in
1:52
view although there were several around
1:55
we were able to find some areas with
1:58
with less competition a little bit less
2:01
shrimp but I like to you know unless
2:05
unless they're really thick I like to
2:07
try to find some areas with shrimp that
2:10
have maybe a few less people a little
2:13
bit less bait and
2:15
sometimes you do a little better here we
2:20
are just dropping our first for a few
2:22
pots of the day love this little hose
2:26
real situation here for line management
2:29
the biggest challenge in shrimping
2:31
really a lot of times is line management
2:33
you know you got 400 feet of ledcor line
2:36
for each pot and you know having a good
2:40
good handle on that is key to having a
2:42
successful day here I think we got our
2:46
last pot down and now we're we're
2:48
bringing up we're bringing up our first
2:50
shrimp pot of the day this was probably
2:54
the bend of being the best pot of the
2:57
day as I think cuz the Sun came up the
2:59
shrimp moved around a bit we can quite
3:02
hit him is good on some of the other
3:04
pots still got our limits pretty fast
3:08
with just the two of us so ended up
3:11
being a good day good 30
3:21
good start yeah I'll take it figure out
3:30
how all this jelly man
3:44
haha I got the Lord one of the things I
3:49
like to do with my bait as we're
3:51
shrimping is kind of dump out whatever
3:55
whatever didn't wash out in the current
3:59
dump it back into the bait cooler just
4:03
kind of mix it around here rehydrated I
4:06
use shrimp and prawn pellets mixed with
4:10
cat food and canned mackerel and I don't
4:15
grind up the pellets I like to keep them
4:17
whole they absorb a lot of the liquid
4:22
and oils from a mackerel the cat food or
4:25
that shrimp well I'll pour in there and
4:29
this way you actually kind of you know
4:32
go through quite as much bait ideally
4:35
you have some bait in the bottom of your
4:36
jar you don't want it to all wash out
4:39
like your shrimping and now you can just
4:42
dump that back in in the big cooler mix
4:45
it around and go for it again so that's
4:49
kind of what we're doing here is we're
4:52
pulling up let's read from this fire
4:55
move this shrimp not too bad
4:59
probably about 25 in there
5:02
yeah nice big one
5:29
one of the things you'll see us doing
5:31
here is we've got a round pot pulling up
5:34
most of the Puget Sound shrimping is
5:36
done with these square pots they fish
5:38
really fast really well you see the
5:41
round pots more in the San Juans or in
5:43
the Strait and I'd been having some
5:45
trouble with my round pots with them
5:47
rolling on me
5:50
based on how is ringing them you have to
5:52
rig them a little differently than the
5:54
square pots too to make sure they don't
5:56
roll and finally got that kink worked
6:01
out here on this trip placing the pot
6:04
anchor actually on the pot and just
6:08
making sure that it's set flat and flush
6:12
with the sea bottom before throwing all
6:15
the extra rope overboard so it's pretty
6:18
happy to get that sorted out so I'll be
6:21
going up to the Strait next week doing a
6:24
little shrimping up there with with more
6:29
of these round pots that can really they
6:31
can they can out fish the square ones in
6:34
the right conditions we had a quite a
6:37
surprise and what we pulled up in the
6:40
round pot we have these
6:46
he's like stuck to everything he's in oh
6:53
look at these eyes look at him
6:56
holy cow dude I think we can keep them I
6:59
don't want to keep him man
7:00
okay I don't want to keep them oh that's
7:09
so awesome
7:10
put them on the gram yeah let's throw
7:15
these shrimp over and try to go get
7:17
somewhere I do that it's so awesome
7:30
let's toss with you
7:35
you good yep all right little guy -
7:40
lucky day I think it's your lucky day
7:46
it's like stuck to everything whoa look
7:52
at that guy oh that one's stabbing me
7:55
I'm like what the heck is that well
7:58
we're rail dumping one of our pots here
8:00
cuz we limited really release oh and
8:03
head back to the launch but you can see
8:06
I'm uh swimming away here it'll be any
8:08
finger that one out thank you oh don't
8:12
lose that yeah I started using parachute
8:16
cord on my weight because that's rock
8:19
that crap happens when you uh I haven't
8:22
had a rafter that stuff happens when you
8:25
shake it a bunch that was almost a bad
8:32
deal
